Today’s flights was very interesting…
Had my second radio instrument flight today. Almost took off with the absolute lowest weather minimums we were allowed with a 200ft cloud height and 1/2 mile visibility. Well, the helo had other plans and we got delayed for take off and the fog and clouds cleared up before we took off. Did my holding and 2 out of my three approaches. I was on a base leg for my very last VOR approach and the Flight Control System decided to fail. Which means that the helo suddenly became more unstable because it lost the computers helping me keep it stable. So, the other guy didn’t get to do his flight.
On top of that going wrong. At first we had low oil in the transmission on preflight. Then there was a bad wire running off the battery, and finally one of the lights for an instrument didn’t work at first. The XO decided to break his rule of 3 strikes and we cancel the flight so we ended up with that 4th.
Oh wells, it was a very awesome flight. I’m really starting to enjoy instruments.
